This is a 20-hour a week internship with hours arranged with supervisor. The intern will be paid $17.50/hour, and the internship does not include benefits.

Position: External Relations Intern
Reports To: Director of Communications
This internship will provide the opportunity to experience the external relations field in one of the premier Division I collegiate athletic conference offices. This position will be exposed to and involved in the ongoing development of West Coast Conference initiatives and provide hands-on experience and learning opportunities.
Principal Functions:
Assist with the Conference’s external relations efforts. Examples of associated tasks include:
• Support the Conference’s strategic communications efforts, contributing to projects related to the promotion of the Conference and member institutions.
• Serve as the primary communications contact for designated sports, promoting programs with media, writing news releases, managing statistics, maintaining record books, and contributing to the administration of awards.
• Write weekly recaps and awards releases and update content on WCCsports.com.
• Contribute to conference record keeping efforts related to achievements, statistics, and other communications projects.
• Contribute to the coverage of events throughout the academic year.
• Assist with digital network broadcast administration.
• Contribute to archival process of external assets, including publications, record books, photos and sponsorship placement.
• Assist with execution of social media strategy.
• Assist with planning and coverage of championship events, including participation onsite at select events.
• Participate in planning meetings and video conferences with conference staff and membership with the opportunity to present on coverage of assigned sports.
Additional Information.
The start date of the internship is tentatively August 1, 2025, and the end date is June 30, 2026. This is a 20-hour-a-week internship with hours arranged with a supervisor. The intern will be paid $17.50/hour, and the internship does not include benefits.
This position will be based out of the WCC Office in San Bruno, CA. Some travel will be required.
The 2025-26 WCC Championship dates are listed below and availability to attend is expected for some or all of the following championship dates: Fall 2025: Cross Country Nov. 1; Men’s Water Polo Nov. 21-23 Winter 2026: Men’s and Women’s Basketball March 5-10 Spring 2026: Women’s Golf April 24-27; Beach Volleyball April 23-24; Tennis April 23-25; Men’s Golf April 30-May 3; Rowing May 15-16; Baseball May 20-23

Preferred Qualifications and Requirements:
Demonstrated experience with the WCC’s core values of integrity, servant leadership, inclusion, excellence, innovation, communication, and collaboration.
Completion of bachelor’s degree required.
Strong writing and editing skills with demonstrated experience in writing sports specific content and knowledge of AP style.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft programs (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as Adobe InDesign and Photoshop required.
Proficiency and experience with Apple computers preferred.
Effective professional communication, both orally and in writing.
Proficiency in drafting and editing written communications.
Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, the West Coast Conference and its institutions’ programs and/or higher education preferred.
