Responsibilities:  The  CHSS  Graduate Programs Marketing Specialist promotes  CHSS  graduate programs with a focus on increasing graduate enrollments by producing, implementing, and managing strategic communications and marketing campaigns. Working with the graduate academic affairs team, the marketing specialist will collaborate with faculty and staff in  CHSS  departments to create annual marketing plans for their graduate degrees and certificates, to raise awareness about  CHSS  faculty expertise and research, and to create and maintain the brand identity for  CHSS .  The marketing specialist also manages the college&#39;s digital ad campaigns, develops digital ad content and social media marketing content, and leverages college events to raise awareness of our programs. This may include particular attention to: Management of social media presence for first-generation students and maintenance of the weekly First Gen Newsletter. Academic departments that host a larger number of first-generation students and serving as a resource to those departments for programs and initiatives or onsite office hours. Attendance to Spotlight Days for admitted students to advertise all programs from the department connected to first-generation students, including  STEP  and First Gen  LLC . Serving as additional support advisor and liaison for all students who attend Mason and have completed the Early Identification Program ( EIP ). This role supervises a host of graduate and undergraduate staff: Supervise one (1) Student Support Coordinator to assist with first-generation programming portfolio and initiatives. Supervise and support one (1) Resident Assistant assigned to the  LLC . Supervise 10-12 First-generation Student Mentors. Teach one or more sections of the courses as the primary instructor (University 100 &#8211; Fall Courses and/or Spring Courses). This is a course requirement for both the  STEP  and The First  LLC  students as well as a great professional development opportunity. Programs and Evaluation: Coordinate The First-generation Learning Living Community (The First,  LLC ), in collaboration with Housing &#38; Residence Life and Supervisor.  The  LLC  currently is a mixed-level  LLC  and includes both upperclass students and first year students. Note: this program will not be active in 2021-2022, but may be in the future. The Center staff assist students encountering barriers to personal success. About the Position: The Assistant Director is charged with the primary responsibility of overseeing the University&#39;s comprehensive alcohol and drug prevention, intervention, and support services. Within this approach, attention is given to serving a diverse audience with needs along a continuum of care. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with campus, community, state, and national groups and agencies. The Assistant Director is part of a team, which offers services for students in an effort to foster the safety and well-being of the Mason community, and therefore, might occasionally triage and conduct intakes related to students in crisis or distress. This position involves after-hours and weekend work, as needed. Responsibilities: Prevention: Comprehensive Prevention: Develop, coordinate, and maintain a comprehensive offering of co-curricular prevention programs and opportunities that include primary and secondary prevention strategies, risk reduction, and additional strategies related to substance use. This includes continuance of traditional Mason programs as well as development of new programs and content relevant to Mason&#39;s students; assistance in the coordination of workshop and educational requests from the Mason community; and active involvement with Mason committees, taskforces, and partners; Work closely with the Assistant Director for Sexual and Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Response to ensure that George Mason University&#39;s bystander intervention program is a key part of comprehensive substance abuse prevention; Develop and implement educational materials and campaigns such as brochures, posters, fliers, public service announcements, infographics, PowerPoint presentations, trainings, websites, and social media content on the subject of substance use, recovery, and related topics.  Peer Education Program Coordination: Serve as the primary coordinator for the Substance Use Peer Educators (SUPEs), who educate Mason students on topics of substance use and recovery. This includes the recruitment, training, workshop development, evaluation and overall management of the  SUPE  program.  Supervision and Advisement: Select, train, and supervise graduate and undergraduate student employees and/or volunteers. Advise and work closely with student leaders and student groups on addressing substance use and recovery in the University community.  Needs Assessment, Evaluation and Research: Coordinate periodic quantitative and qualitative assessments of student knowledge, attitudes, perceptions, and behaviors. Strategize with other units, as appropriate; Collaborate with faculty, staff, and community members to develop, implement and evaluate substance use prevention, intervention, and recovery initiatives.  Policy Support and Development: Collaborate with campus and community offices and agencies on the development, implementation, and support for substance use intervention, education, and recovery related policies and procedures. Serve as the primary  SSAC  representative to the Medical Amnesty Committee.  Written Reports: Prepare internal documentation and reports as requested by the Director and Associate Director. Compile data for the Biennial Review and serve as the primary  SSAC  representative to the Biennial Review Group.  Intervention: Student Assessment, Intervention, and Referral: Oversee and administer the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students Program ( BASICS ). Meet with individual students who are referred or who voluntarily seek support in exploring their substance use.  BASICS  is designed as a short-term educational intervention. Students presenting with complex substance use histories will be referred to other professionals and agencies as deemed appropriate for long-term support.  Intake and Support: Conduct intake and screenings with students surrounding their substance use habits and/or recovery. This includes utilizing active listening strategies, building rapport and support, setting healthy boundaries, problem-solving, exploring risk reduction methods, and providing resources and options to the student.  Case Management: Provide case management of students in recovery for substance use disorders, eating disorders, or other process addictions, and occasionally students in distress; monitor follow-up and progress for ongoing student cases as needed and advise?  SSAC  staff of student progress and needs, as appropriate.  Referral and Resource Navigation: Provide compassionate navigation of campus and community resources to students. These include referrals to Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Services, and off-campus medical resources, and community substance use and recovery treatment providers. Build and maintain awareness of the resources available to George Mason University students around substance use, eating disorders, and other process addictions.  Record Keeping: Ensure that all student records are maintained in accordance with University policies and applicable laws. Additionally, utilize database to record and document all alcohol and drug related assessments and appointments.  Recovery: Provide leadership and direction to the collegiate recovery community. This includes facilitating programs and spaces, conducting intakes and screenings of potential members, working to increase visibility and awareness of recovery resources at George Mason University, securing resources and sponsors of programs and events, and continuing to grow recovery supports for George Mason University students.  Collaboration and Advancement of the Substance Use and Recovery Functional Area: Provide support and consultation to?SSAC?staff, campus student leaders and student groups, and other Mason community members on topics associated with substance use and recovery, program coordination, content expertise, etc.; As requested by the Director or Associate Director, serve on and participate in committees, task-forces, event planning groups, trainings, and other various opportunities with the goal of continuing to expand and develop the area of substance use prevention, risk reduction, and recovery within  SSAC  and in the Mason community; Cultivate an understanding of campus approaches to supporting students in recovery and those who struggle with substance use, including best-practices and standards of practice developed by a variety of organizations to include the American College Health Association and the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education. Funding Acquisition: Seek institutional and grant supplemental funding to advance specific programs, services, and initiatives.  Qualifications 
 
 
 Candidates should have substantial professional experience in journalism and/or public relations. Master&#8217;s degree in Journalism or related field required. Specific details of the three adjunct positions follow. 
 Reporting on the Economy: &#xa0;This adjunct teaches a 3-credit course for a 12-week term on the fundamentals of how journalists cover the U.S. economy. Specifics include reporting and writing longer news features on topics such as the Federal Reserve, regional economic trends and unemployment. Background as a business reporter is a must for this position. &#xa0; 
 Producing for Broadcast and Online:&#xa0; The adjunct instructor will teach an immersive course in which students serve as producers for both live TV and a website. The centerpiece, using the teaching hospital model, is a twice weekly live broadcast on cable TV and accompanying website. The adjunct instructor will also teach the one-credit Broadcast Announcing Practicum, in which students serve as anchors for those newscasts. The instructor will also work closely with the professor teaching our signature Beat Reporting course, as well as the students who serve on the work-study control room staff.&#xa0;The instructor should have professional live television producing experience and familiarity with news website production. 
 Public Relations Writing:&#xa0; This adjunct teaches a 3-credit course for two, 12-week terms. The course teaches persuasive writing used by public relations practitioners to reach all audiences. This work requires becoming established as trusted member of the campus-community team, frequently representing the CRE and the Healthy Hoosier Communities efforts at events and meetings in communities and on campus, knowing the relevant partners at IU and in the counties, and being sensitive to the complexities that drive those entities.   The Liaison will also work with the CRE management team to determine key metrics for project activity, coordinate with systems for tracking those metrics, assist with data collection and analysis, and report as needed on aggregate metrics. Will also monitor news and track major issues and events regarding the counties and share this information as appropriate with the CRE team and other IUB faculty, staff and students working on CRE projects. Working in partnership with the CRE team, the Liaison should develop strong working relationships with county partners and stakeholders to facilitate an atmosphere of trust for IU faculty, staff, and students working in the community. Primary/Principal Responsibilities:   * Collaborate with the Director of Enrollment Marketing on the development of digital or email marketing and communication strategy   * Collaborate with the Office of Admission on the distribution of email and SMS communications   * Write and develop email marketing and SMS communications for all audiences (prospective students, parents, guidance counselors, applicants, accepted students, enrolling students, etc.) in partnership with creative team and campus partners   * Ensure regular communication and collaboration with stakeholders and editorial colleagues in the Division of Communications to compile relevant content for marketing copy   * Build and maintain content/asset libraries for re-use in future email campaigns   * Create reports on data activity for marketing email and SMS campaigns and monitor the effectiveness of campaigns by assessing analytics   * Review and provide analysis on various data activity from the CRM (Slate)   * Understand drip campaign strategy and A/B testing to optimize email campaigns and programs   Requirements/Qualifications:   * Bachelor&#39;s degree in communications, marketing, advertising, journalism, English, or a related field   * Excellent writing skills   * Two+ years of professional marketing or admission experience with an emphasis on digital strategy and email communication   * Knowledge of email industry best practices including contact strategies, targeting and segmentation, A/B testing, and analytics   * Strong interpersonal and communication skills   * Proficiency with MS Office products, CRM system functionality, and email communication software - preferably Slate   * Experience or familiarity with HTML editing a plus   * Must be a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who can prioritize independently and manage multiple tasks at once     Suffolk University does not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, national origin, ancestry, religious creed, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, age, genetic information, or status as a veteran in admission to, access to, treatment in, or employment in its programs, activities, or employment.
