Position Summary The Department of Communication Studies in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama is seeking a faculty member for a full-time, non-tenure-track, three-year renewable contract Assistant Professor of Communication Studies to begin August 15, 2023. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and service in the discipline of communication studies. Appointments to the faculty of The University of Alabama are based on the personnel requirements of the University’s academic programs and on the goal of achieving and maintaining excellence in its teaching, research, and service/academic citizenship activities.
Detailed Position Information Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and service in the discipline of communication studies including but not limited to interpersonal communication, organizational leadership, rhetoric and political discourse, and/or communication and culture. Appointments to the faculty of The University of Alabama are based on the personnel requirements of the University’s academic programs and on the goal of achieving and maintaining excellence in its teaching, research, and service/academic citizenship activities.
Responsibilities:
Teach four courses each semester in a range of communication studies courses at the undergraduate and master’s level and in face-to-face and online modalities.
Establish and maintain a record of teaching excellence.
Assist with programmatic duties in the distance learning undergraduate and graduate programs.
Mentor undergraduate and graduate students toward degree completion and employment.
Serve on department and college committees as appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications
Completed Ph.D. in Communication (or a related field with at least 18 credit hours in communication and successful record teaching communication courses) by August 14, 2023.
Record of teaching excellence in both online and face-to-face environments.
Ability and qualifications to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
Ability to be an active and involved member of a highly collaborative faculty team.
