The Associate Director of Alumni Communication will promote engagement activities through a variety of channels to inspire constituents to become connected, engaged and invested in Seton Hall. The Associate Director will focus on creating content for fundraising appeals primarily through email, crowdfunding, direct mail, and social media. The individual will help to craft long-form narrative content like profile, news, and feature stories on alumni and families, and will assist in creating comprehensive fundraising campaign communications and marketing materials.
The individual will manage a coordinated annual calendar of communications via email, direct mail, crowdfunding, e-solicitations, face-to-face solicitations, web, personalized messages, and social media. They will assist in creating a comprehensive, strategic alumni engagement and philanthropic communications and marketing plan, including leading the creation and distribution of important deliverables like monthly newsletters to all alumni (Pirate Press) and other e-reports to segmented audiences with special attention to integrating these plans with the upcoming comprehensive campaign.
The Associate Director will collaboratively with University Advancement, campus partners, and as an integrated member of the Alumni Engagement & Philanthropy team. They will participate in all aspects of alumni engagement including philanthropy, communication, digital, experiential, leadership giving and volunteerism. They will work to create mutually beneficial relationships that inspire loyalty and financial support, strengthen the institution’s reputation, and involve alumni in meaningful activities to advance the institution’s mission.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Manage a coordinated annual calendar of communications via direct mail, crowdfunding, e-solicitations, face-to-face solicitations, web, personalized messages, and social media. Assist in creating a comprehensive, strategic alumni engagement and philanthropic communications and marketing plan, including leading the creation and distribution of important deliverables like monthly newsletters to all alumni (Pirate Press) and other e-reports to segmented audiences with special attention to integrating these plans with the upcoming comprehensive campaign. Conduct interviews and interact with more Seton Hall constituents by developing, based on division and campaign goals and initiatives. Accompany narrative content with video features and interviews when applicable by working with the Assistant Director of Alumni Communication & Digital Engagement. Populations will be highly segmented and personalized, which will provide diverse opportunities for alumni to engage and make philanthropic investments that are meaningful to them. Interact with constituents in a variety of ways by assisting in the management of digital platforms. Promote meaningful engagement messages through these platforms, thus enhancing digital alumni engagement. Attend alumni and family engagement events regularly to capture content and develop stories and post-event communications, while interacting with alumni at these events. 2) Assist the alumni engagement team by writing and designing major general invitations and appeals through the various channels mentioned above. These major communications include, but are not limited to Seton Hall Giving Day, Reunions, Homecoming, Many Are One, various direct mail appeals, general crowdfunding appeals, Giving Tuesday, and year-end donor appeals. Strong writing and design skills are required. 3) Managing the profile bank of stories for the upcoming fundraising campaign and craft compelling communications targeted to alumni and the Seton Hall community, and key leadership and shareholders of the University. To increase engagement, the role will have more involvement with constituents to interview and craft alumni and donor stories and articles that work to advance the campaign with an enhanced focus on engaged alumni and families, major and principal gift donors. Write and prepare internal communications for the Division including the Associate Vice President of Alumni Engagement & Philanthropy and the Vice President of University Advancement, as well as, at times, the President of the University including but not limited to emails, campaign messages, announcements, mailings, solicitation letters, notes to key stakeholders, etc. 4) The Associate Director will collaboratively with University Advancement, campus partners, and as an integrated member of the Alumni Engagement & Philanthropy team. Required Qualifications:
BA and one to three years experience post bachelors in a communication related field.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in the higher education industry preferred.
