As part of its partnership with NBC Universal, the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a one-year Broadcast Journalist-in-Residence position. Primary responsibilities include teaching undergraduate-level television and digital-media courses; organizing and conducting skills-oriented master classes, boot-camps or workshops; coaching and mentoring students, including supervising newscasts and other video-based projects; and advising department faculty and administration on developing industry-based partnerships and issues related to meeting industry standards for professional development of students.
The successful candidate will be a broadcast journalist with significant and distinguished professional experience in digital media, including on-air and production experience. The selected candidate will mentor and coach students while teaching courses encompassing electronic news writing, reporting and production, with some focus on how broadcast journalists utilize the related skills via other platforms, such as social media. Additionally, the Journalist-in-Residence should demonstrate the ability to engage with faculty colleagues to help build training and strategies that further elevate the unit's efforts.

With an award-winning faculty, intensive research programs, and community-focused initiatives, North Carolina A&T State University is the nation's largest historically black university with an enrollment of more than 13,300 students.
The department is part of the University's College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, which enrolls about 1,900 students and has more than 160 faculty members. More than 500 students pursue majors or minors in the Journalism and Mass Communication Department, which plans to establish a graduate program in the near future. The department is one of only three North Carolina units accredited by the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (ACEJMC). The mission of the Department is to prepare students with the high-quality education necessary to succeed as professionals and critical thinkers, who become productive citizens of their communities, the nation, and the world.

Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in journalism/communications or related discipline is required, in conjunction with a minimum of 10 years of professional newsroom experience, strong writing, creative storytelling, and broadcast production abilities.
Preferred:
A Master's degree or higher is preferred with 10 or more years of professional broadcast journalism experience, as well as teaching experience at the university level.
