The multi-award-winning USC Dornsife Office of Communication, which includes specialists in news writing, social media, media relations, graphic design, marketing, magazine and video production, is looking for a creative, seasoned media relations director to join our team of marketing communication professionals. The position reports to the senior associate dean for communication.
Our offices are located at the USC Tower in downtown Los Angeles but weâre currently working remotely, with periodic in-person get-togethers and campus visits.

Develop and implement media relations plans to support USC Dornsife's mission and objectives
Support, encourage and coach our scholars to more effectively share their research and expertise with the public through all forms of media
Tap your curiosity and voracious appetite for news to identify and secure timely opportunities for our scholars to provide expert commentary in top tier news media
Seek and develop media opportunities to enhance the reputation of USC Dornsife, our faculty, students, and programs
Develop and supervise day-to-day media operations, including media research and monitoring using Muckrack Â
Coordinate and screen requests for interviews with faculty and leadership
Draft news releases, pitches, and talking points for interviews
Develop and oversee editorial calendars, working closely with other members of the communication team to sync content across channels
Write and edit news stories for USC Dornsife News and USC News, contribute stories to our alumni magazine
Collaborate with the university media relations team, office of diversity, equity & inclusion, and the creative content teams
Contribute to an inclusive work environment, building and maintaining strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
Preferred job qualifications:
10+ years of media relations experience, either in-house or with an agency, with a track record of placing stories in top-tier news media
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Experience reflecting diversity, equity and inclusion in content
Ability to independently, strategically and creatively make decisions
Strong interpersonal skills
Passionate interest in current events and news
Experience with Microsoft Office and content management systems, preferably WordPress
Ability to successfully juggle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
Receptive to feedback
The ideal candidate will also:
Have a bachelors or masters degree in public relations, marketing, or journalism or a degree in one of the fields associated with the social sciences, natural sciences or humanities
Have experienence writing and pitching op-eds
Have media training experience
Be committed to professional growth and development
Be a bold, creative thinker who will establish best practices for securing news coverage, not just follow them

Salary Range:Â $72,000 - $96,000 annual salary DOE
