The position plays a significant role in creating content about Brandeis to support its communications goals. The successful applicant will be a natural storyteller with a good grasp on what interests academically talented prospective students and their parents. They will be a member of the marketing team â“ working collaboratively with social media content creators, visual content creators and writers â“ as well as a member of the communications team, pitching and responding to media. The candidate should be a strategic thinker, able to understand marketing concepts, and able to identify and execute ways to communicate strategic messages effectively across platforms.
The Senior Content and Media Specialist will have experience working effectively and directly with journalists, producers, editors, photographers and film crews. The successful applicant will be a partner to the Director, Strategic Communications and Public Relations, supporting them in handling media as well as internal communications. Prior experience in responding to media requests, including during organizational crises, is required. Must be able to write and pitch a press release and demonstrate previous success in placing media stories. While the ability to work in a team is key, the successful candidate will be a self-starting and enthusiastic content generator able to juggle and complete multiple projects simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities:
Generating ideas for and writing (or producing via multimedia) marketing content centered on students, faculty, research, university events and initiatives, developed in partnership with senior communications personnel and campus partners. 55%
Partnering with the Director, Strategic Communications and Public Relations in pitching and responding to media, drafting and/or editing internal communications. Working with media on breaking news, earned media pitches, television/radio hits, photography shoots, and scheduling interviews. 25%
Posting content to the university website and producing a newsletter 10 %
Monitoring news coverage of Brandeis, amplifying positive coverage and advising on negative coverage. 10 %
Requirements:
Bachelors degree required.
5-8 years of relevant experience is required
This position requires familiarity with or ability to learn web content management systems, media relations software, and digital media content and measurement tools.
Must be able to relate to, and work well with, faculty, administrators, staff and students. Focus of their work as a content creator will involve producing content centered on students, research, campus events, and university news and initiatives.
Focus of their work with media will involve assisting the Director of Communications in developing media strategy, responding to media requests and issues, and generating external media opportunities by identifying newsworthy stories and pitching them directly to reporters.
Experience with social media best practices, accessibility best practices, photography, video production and email marketing a plus.Â
