The Assistant Director of Communications in the Office of University Marketing and Communications (UMC) reports to the Director of Strategic Communications. As one of La Salle’s senior writers and editors, the Assistant Director promotes and elevates the University’s brand and reputation through interesting and creative storytelling. The role develops, maintains, and executes a comprehensive editorial and content calendar spanning all communication channels and audiences. The position requires collaboration across campus units.
Develop and execute an integrated cross-channel content strategy for owned media created in partnership with the leadership in the division that advances the priorities and strategic messages of the University
Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive media relations plan with appropriate proactive and responsive strategies to ensure key messages are highlighted and the reputation of the institution is protected and enhanced in all external communications
Collaborate with key members of leadership and faculty teams to evaluate and introduce appropriate and innovative marketing and communications solutions
Manage the day-to-day content creation and project management for lasalle.edu, La Salle Magazine, and other print and digital communications platforms, including supporting the University’s social media channels
Generate engaging content across digital and traditional communication channels that supports strategic messaging goals and leverages SEO
Review all communications pieces to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment to brand
Provide live coverage of on- and off-campus events for content generation and social media support
Implement the editorial direction of La Salle Magazine and serve as the project manager and department lead to ensure quality, accuracy, timeliness and appropriateness of content
Create weekly and monthly newsletter content including This Week at La Salle, News Brief, President’s Newsletter, and Alumni Newsletter
Manage freelancers utilized for University publications including La Salle Magazine and lasalle.edu
Assist in the execution of crisis and emergency communications, collaborating with leadership in the division and colleagues in Public Safety to ensure preparedness and best practices
Provide supporting service for social media and digital communications
Manage special projects and/or serve on committees as requested by the Chief of Staff or Director
Assist with key University events as needed
Perform other related duties as assigned
The position assists in the oversight of the UMC’s Social Media Coordinator.
Other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or English
3- 5 years related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Extensive copywriting and copyediting experience
Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, time management, project management, and organizational skills
Adherence to deadlines in a fast-paced environment, with a high degree of flexibility, accuracy, and attention to detail
Ability to produce written materials in a variety of formats—quickly, accurately, and effectively
Ability to interface with individuals at multiple levels of a complex organization with a proven history of professionalism and discretion
Proficiency with AP style
Ability to work independently to meet expected deadlines and schedules
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, Project Management, and Cloud Collaboration software
High comfort level in using technology to optimize workflow and business processes
