Job Summary:
Reporting to the Managing Editor of Internal Communications in the Office of Global Marketing and Communications (OGMC), the Internal Communications Content Coordinator supports the efforts of the Internal and Crisis Communications (ICC) and Media Relations teams. This entails coordinating content for various stakeholders across the University and beyond. The Internal Communications Content Coordinator will plan, write and distribute stories about University news and campus life, as well as features on newsworthy students, faculty and staff. Additionally, the coordinator will support OGMC partners and others throughout Northwestern in the writing, editing, sending and maintenance of various campus-wide messages and newsletters.
Specific Responsibilities:
At the direction managing editor, coordinate and produce content for owned channels, including Northwestern Now, Leadership Notes, Faculty Accolades, and other sites, with the aim of expanding awareness of Northwestern and elevating its reputation among various stakeholders
Write and edit stories about Northwestern people, programs, events and policies for students, faculty, staff, alumni, trustees, neighbors, and the public
Help plan, write, produce, and distribute campus-wide messages and newsletters using the University’s bulk mail tool
Learn and use content management systems to help sustain online matter on a daily basis
Attend meetings and events as needed to provide news coverage
Assist Media Relations team members as needed as they publish content
Support other OGMC teams, including social media, as needed
Perform other duties as assigned, such as update subscriber lists, fill asset requests, help create presentations, etc.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through completion of a four-year college degree program in journalism, communications and/or relevant experience.
A minimum of one year of demonstrated writing, editorial, publication or other relevant experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Cascade, Silverstripe, Cision or similar content management systems.
Excellent writing skills. Demonstrated ability to serve as primary author of a significant document.
Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to manage the relationships and input from multiple constituents at varying levels of appointment.
Strong organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple, complex tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Ability to create and manage presentations in Excel and PowerPoint.
