The PGY2 Oncology Pharmacy Residency at The University of Kansas Health System provides residents with the skills and knowledge to become a competent hematology/oncology pharmacy practitioner. The University of Kansas Cancer Center is designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center by NCI and has >4,500 outpatient cancer care visits weekly. The pharmacy cancer care team is comprised of over 55 pharmacists with specialized training supporting 6 cancer sites throughout the Kansas City Metropolitan area and >1000-bed hospital in Kansas City. TUKHS-CC is nationally recognized as one of the nation’s best cancer programs and has been ranked for Cancer treatment in U.S. News & Worlds Reports thirteen years. Our investigational pharmacy team manages over 400 clinical trials throughout the health system and is comprised of 9 pharmacists staffing 3 primary investigational drug service locations and servicing 4 satellite locations.
Our Cancer Care Pharmacy team provides clinical services ranging from inpatient rounding to outpatient clinic and infusion center support in ambulatory cancer centers. The team also collaborates closely with Investigational Drug Services and the Pharmacy Informatics Beacon Team.
We offer PGY2 oncology pharmacy learning experiences in inpatient/outpatient adult hematology, acute leukemia, and medical oncology, inpatient hematopoietic stem cell transplant, inpatient autologous transplant and CAR-T therapy, and outpatient cancer center pharmacy, breast medical oncology, genitourinary medical oncology, gastrointestinal medical oncology, and head, neck, and lung medical oncology. Electives include outpatient hematopoietic stem cell transplant, palliative care, infectious diseases, and more. Teaching opportunities are available at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy and residents will also be involved in clinical committees related to the work of the Cancer Center. The residency is tailored to the interests and the career goals of each resident to build toward a successful career in hematology/oncology pharmacy.

In November 2017, the health system opened an additional 11 floor hospital tower north of the main campus adding 124 beds and 7 OR suites bringing the total lic...ensed bed number to over 850. The new Cambridge Tower A has allowed for expansion of services including specialized surgeries, oncology, neurosciences and otolaryngology. The strategic plan for the next 30 years includes 3 additional towers for future growth.
