Working Title: Digital Content Specialist Job Classification: 8342DM M&C Pro 2-Digital Marketing
Salary: $51,000 plus DOQ
The Digital Content Specialist will create, curate, edit, and post story-driven content to the Libraries news blog, website, e-newsletter, and social media channels. This will include developing and managing an editorial calendar in cooperation with the Director of Advancement and the Libraries Communications team. This position will also write and edit email blasts, event promotion material, and copy for development projects. This position also will be responsible for creating and maintaining a monthly analytics dashboard.
The Digital Content Specialist works directly with the Director of Advancement to support the Libraries varied programs. This individual will collaborate with colleagues on the Libraries Advancement Team — communicators, development professionals, and students, along with Libraries employees and others across the University of Minnesota. This is a 100%, 12 month continuing Civil Service appointment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Digital Communications: 75% Writing and Editing: Create, curate, and edit high-quality, engaging content for use on news blogs, social media channels, and newsletters. Create and maintain editorial calendar for news blog and for social media channels
Social Media: Lead social media strategy while acting as primary account manager across the Libraries social media accounts (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube) Monitor and respond to questions and queries sent to account pages Collaborate with other Libraries social media managers across departments Create and curate engaging and relevant social media content across channels to build brand awareness and amplify key messages
Analytics: Create and update monthly analytics dashboard Synthesize and incorporate findings from analytics report into overall digital communications strategy Email Marketing: Manage the Libraries weekly internal newsletter and the twice-monthly external newsletter Collaborate with the Libraries Communications Specialist as needed on other marketing emails.
Communications and Program Support: 10% Edit and proofread content created by others for usability, organizational content, readability, and appropriateness for the intended audience Incorporate digital accessibility into all aspects of marketing/communications workflow (i.e. closed captioning for all video content, alt tags, and creation of accessible PDFs) Assist in the creation of print graphic design pieces Attend Libraries featured events for purposes of sharing to social media and writing blog posts about the event
Student worker management: 10% Manage student worker(s) for the Libraries Advancement Team
Other duties as assigned: 5%
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, marketing, art, or related field plus 2 years of professional experience, or 6 years combined equivalent of education and experience
Demonstrated writing and editing experience.
Experience with social media applications (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube)
Experience with WordPress or other content management systems
Ability to attend some evening and weekend events
Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility in communications
Preferred Qualifications:
Photography skills
Video production and video editing experience
Thorough understanding of AP Style
Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
Knowledge and experience with search engine optimization techniques
Experience with mass email tools, such as Salesforce or MailChimp
Familiarity with digital accessibility requirements and best practices
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
