The National Drought Mitigation Center (NDMC), based in UNL's School of Natural Resources (SNR), is looking for a science communicator to report, write and edit solutions-oriented content in support of the center's national and global mission to reduce the effects of future droughts. The employee will distill complex, multi-disciplinary information for different audiences into stories and images (content) that can be distributed via news, social media, the NDMC's website and other means; will work with others to package content for a variety of media, from fact-sheets and infographics to podcasts, video and interactive maps; and will join organizational and institutional teams that are supporting state, national and global response to environmental challenges with cutting-edge science and communication.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing, public relations, or a related field, or a bachelor's degree in a field related to drought planning, such as climatology, urban planning, agriculture, or natural resources plus one year experience in public information, public relations, marketing, or journalism or related field. Ability to plan, develop, and implement communication initiatives and activities related to drought planning.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two or more years' experience in public information, public relations, marketing, or journalism or related field. Demonstrated interest in writing about natural resources, especially water and land, in a changing world. Experience writing for the web and social media. Experience with data visualization, graphic design, illustration, photography, video production or podcast production a plus.
