POSITION SUMMARY
The Howard H. Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs (Baker School) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, seeks applications and nominations for a full-time communications manager to join the team of professionals within the Baker School Office of Communications and Marketing. This position serves as the lead content writer and editor for strategic marketing communications to ensure brand consistency, style edits, structure, and flow. They will manage writing and provide copy editing support for all forms of written content: Baker School website stories, news releases, social media, features, internal stories, annual reports and other publications, promotional material, newsletters and more. This position will focus on storytelling to showcase the work of the College's students, faculty, and alumni. This position works collaboratively with the Baker School Office of Communications and Marketing (C&M), the Dean's Office, and supporting units across the School, Institute for American Civics and Research Centers to provide stories to enhance marketing and outreach efforts further, focused on student recruitment and donor relations. The position will also lead the User Research and Usability Testing for the Baker School website and ensure web content and published materials are inclusive and accessible. This position will lead all web design work and serve as the main liaison with the university's Office of Communications and Marketing for work in relation to the campus-wide Web Design System. The position requires a commitment to accuracy, meeting deadlines, and support for effective relationships with campus and external constituencies. In addition to good writing skills, the position calls for adaptability, flexibility, and sound judgment in handling sensitive material. The position must have a passion for authentic storytelling and can work well under pressure with multiple deadlines. This position must be a creative thinker, visionary, and team player. The communications manager reports to the Director of Communications and Marketing.
