COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER, School of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (SHASS), to work with the director and communications team to develop and implement communications, marketing, and outreach efforts promoting SHASS to external and internal constituents, including industry, the general public, faculty, staff, students, and the greater MIT community. Will manage, create, and measure content for all of the school's social media channels, including conceptualizing and implementing new initiatives and establishing a regular reporting system to share analytics and trends; manage SHASS newsletters and conceptualize, write, and/or edit a wide variety of content for multiple channels and projects; manage regular content updates and generation for the school's public-facing website; and serve as the school's media relations contact, including crafting announcements, facilitating MIT News story coverage, and managing inquiries in partnership with the MIT News Office.
REQUIRED: bachelor's degree (master's preferred) in a related field, preferably int the humanities, arts, and social sciences; at least five years' communications experience, including content creation, digital communications, project management, and media relations; excellent project management and written and oral communication skills; comprehensive, up-to-date knowledge of digital communications platforms and experience working across social media channels and web platforms (specifically WordPress and Drupal); media relations experience and ability to work with journalists; high-level proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop); experience crafting compelling presentations in PowerPoint; experience leveraging metrics to market and evolve programs and initiatives; ability to prioritize multiple work assignments and meet deadlines and work in a team-oriented environment and collaborate across all organizational units; and discretion and judgment with sensitive information/issues. This position has flexible, hybrid work arrangements. Must be available for in-person monthly all-staff meetings. Occasional weekend and evening work may be also required.
