OverviewWorking under the supervision of the Senior Director of Executive Communications, the Associate Director of Internal Communications will lead the Office of Public Affairs internal communications efforts, assisting with response to internal media inquiries, as well as write content that drives engagement with audiences across campus. The associate director will identify, develop and tell important University stories, showcase the work of faculty and the achievements of students through dynamic content produced for internal newsletters, the NYU website, social media, and other platforms. He or she works directly with the Senior Vice President for Public Affairs and Strategic Communications and the Senior Director of Communications to create content for Our NYU, NYU Weekly, and In & Of, as well as the NYU website and other channels. This content includes generating ideas as well as writing feature stories, profiles, articles on university initiatives, news briefs, and other content as assigned. The Associate Director (and the content that he or she produces) will be representing the University, and thus must be able to work within NYU's institutional expectations. The Associate Director should have technical skills sufficient to be able or to rapidly learn to be able to post pieces in all digital and social media domains and in a content management system.
ResponsibilitiesRequired Education:Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:Master's Degree in communications, journalism, creative writing, or related discipline.
Required Experience:5+ years of related communications experience, including media relations, journalism, or corporate/institutional communications.
Preferred Experience:Experience working in public relations or higher education fields.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Ability to write quickly, concisely, and accurately; excellent capacity in working with and coordinating projects among diverse teams across units, schools, and campuses; and ability to work well in a matrixed management structure.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Experience with HTML, CSS, After Effects or Motion.
