The Center for the Built Environment (CBE) is an industry/university collaborative research center at the University of California, Berkeley. Our research is guided and supported by a consortium of firms and organizations committed to improving the design, operation and sustainability of buildings. CBE faculty, researchers and graduate students are actively involved in a wide range of projects of importance to the building industry, including energy efficiency, energy simulation, building evaluation, indoor environments, and the design and operation of LEED-certified and zero energy buildings. http://www.cbe.berkeley.eduThe CBE's Research Program Coordinator plays a critical role in the successful day-to-day operation of the center, providing support to research staff, faculty and graduate student researchers (GSRs), and interfacing with CBE's industry consortium members. The position also requires a high level of professionalism, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a high degree of personal ownership to ensure the delivery of quality work products and support for the center's administration and operations. The position requires professional communications with CBE's industry representatives, many of whom are senior executives in their respective companies. The position requires balancing multiple activities and the ability to prioritize tasks to ensure that work is completed on time.

Responsibilities
35% Research Consortium Management and Operations
- Take primary responsibility establishing and managing membership agreements with new and continuing consortium members, coordinating with several university offices.
- Maintain annual and monthly budget planning documents, and coordinate budget meetings with research staff.
- Understand and keep current with university policies to assist faculty, staff and GSRs with budgets and purchasing.
- Coordinate with UC Berkeley administrative staff for budget tracking, and managing consortium funds.
- Assist faculty and researchers to track funding opportunities, and to prepare materials for grant proposals.
35% Communications and Outreach
- Maintain contact databases and email listservs using SalesForce, for industry consortium members, prospects and other groups and individuals.
- Create and send email communications about events, research, news and blog posts written by researchers and communication director.
- Support staff and faculty to maintain professional quality brochures, websites, monthly newsletters, blog posts and social media posts.
- Maintain CBE's publication list, and assist with posting research papers to the online repository eScholarship, and oversee student assistants.
- Assist with special publicity efforts such as CBE' Centerline blog and the Livable Buildings Awards.
30% Event Planning and Management
- Take primary responsibility for CBE's semi-annual conferences which occur in spring and fall.
- Work in close collaboration with communications manager, faculty and researchers to schedule dates, develop agenda, and notify industry members. Coordinate pre-meeting rehearsals of presentations
- Manage event logistics such as email invitations and reminders, meeting registration using Eventbrite, catering, room reservations, AV setup, parking and reception planning.
- Assist with the editing, posting and printing of meeting materials.
- Coordinate with invited guests, speakers and faculty, and provide post-event follow-up.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors' degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with a broad range of industry sponsors and research affiliates.
- Excellent organizational skills, with experience in project management, events planning, and/or university administration.
- Ability to work independently and to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
- High skill level with office applications such as Word, Excel, contact managers, and online services.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proofreading and editing skills, and the ability to produce professional documents and webpages using Word, PowerPoint, InDesign, Illustrator, and/or Photoshop.
- Website content production using Wordpress or other web content management systems.
- Experience in marketing or public relations, for example, using SalesForce and email applications.
- Experience in an academic research environment may be helpful. Familiarity with the Berkeley Financial System (BFS), and the BAIRS reporting system.
- Building industry experience, and/or ability to edit documents on energy or building-related topics.
