The National Catholic Reporter, the country's premier, fully independent, lay-run Catholic news organization, is hiring a full-time social media editor.
The social media editor will be responsible for the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram presences of National Catholic Reporter, Global Sisters Report and EarthBeat. The social media editor works with the publications' editors and reports directly to the managing editor of the National Catholic Reporter. This position is remote.
Maintain a lively and strong social media presence for all three publications, including strategizing the timing and posting to social media accounts of recently published stories and those scheduled for publication; promoting events and company news; sharing and engaging with related content; live-tweeting events as needed; and engaging with replies or comments on social media posts.
Create and curate images, graphics and videos for social accounts.
Keep in daily communication with National Catholic Reporter and Global Sisters Report managing editors and EarthBeat editor to prioritize and plan social media content.
Work with the editors on higher-level social media and other engagement strategizing, such as growing international audiences for Global Sisters Report and EarthBeat and younger, more diverse audiences for all three publications.
Work with the audience engagement director and the marketing manager on engagement strategizing as needed.
Occasionally write newsletters or blog posts.
Maintain high standards of accuracy, accountability and integrity.
At least three years of experience managing social media accounts for media outlets, including scheduling posts and engaging with replies and comments, to develop a voice across publications and elevate brand awareness.
Comfortable multi-tasking and working both independently and as part of multiple departments.
Familiarity with Google Analytics and Slack.
Experience with Youtube and Canva is a plus.
An appreciation for the National Catholic Reporter Publishing Company's mission. Working knowledge of the Catholic Church and its culture is a plus.
Willing to work a flexible schedule, often driven by the news in a global environment.
