Digital Services provides in-house digital support across WGBH, including national production units, children’s productions, local radio and news, education, membership, and other foundation departments. We work on a wide variety of projects; at any given time our team can be found designing and building interactive games for kids, websites for popular PBS shows, audio and video players, media-rich archives, newsletters, and much more.
We're looking for a leader of a team of visual and user experience designers who is comfortable collaborating across disciplines in a fast-paced setting, with the goal of delivering engaging, user-friendly experiences for WGBH’s current and future digital audiences. Reporting to the Senior Director of Digital Product, the Senior Design Manager will own responsibility for design across Digital Services’ initiatives, working with stakeholders to understand their digital engagement goals. Likewise, through qualitative and quantitative feedback, the Senior Design Manager will advocate for users’ goals, working with our product and development teams to define, build and test solutions.
We're looking for someone passionate about media, education and digital storytelling who takes a user-centric approach to their work.
Work with various foundation departments and production units to provide digital expertise on new initiatives.
Establish design objectives across projects, working closely with technical, editorial and product leads.
Comfortably lead and inspire up to 7 direct reports.
Collaborate on development of client proposals to ensure design efforts are aligned with stakeholder and user goals.
Oversee timelines and design deliverables for multiple projects of varying scope and turnaround-time.
Participate as an individual contributor, iterating on ideas and producing prototypes, user flows, or other assets.
Assist project management in estimating and assigning design resources across projects.
Identify and help implement workflow improvements.
Lead brainstorming sessions and conduct user research.
Perform administrative HR tasks, including goal setting and performance reviews for team.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
5+ years of digital design experience, ideally in the field of media, education, journalism or entertainment.
A portfolio demonstrating engaging digital experiences, and a solid understanding of how users consume content.
Experience managing creative teams; including training and mentorship, as well as prioritizing and scheduling work assignments.
Ability to collaborate and promote design objectives with developers, producers and foundation stakeholders.
Ability to lead projects from concept to completion in a fast-paced environment.
Meticulous attention to detail and ability to communicate ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Experience with video and audio streaming products is preferred, but not required.
Experience with agile methodology a bonus.
Bachelor's degree required.
