Initiate new projects and programming at RJI that provide practical innovation resources and training for journalists to address current challenges in the industry.
Manage projects at RJI in collaboration with news outlets operated by the School of Journalism as well as news organizations, large and small, across the country. The projects will create innovative solutions, products or initiatives for journalism’s future and could involve new revenue models, engagement strategies, tools, emerging tech, equity needs and more.
Take a hands-on, leadership role, particularly for projects in school-operated newsrooms, in choosing the best innovative, industry-leading projects, overseeing the completion of those projects and ensuring that the results, good or bad, get shared with the industry.
Collaborate with RJI’s Director of Research and serve as a connector and point person for research efforts that involve the Innovations Lab.
Mentor innovation lab students and help manage their Innovation in Focus projects and other duties.
Attending key gatherings of journalism and technology professionals (e.g. conferences, workshops and training) to maintain important industry connections, speak about RJI’s initiatives, produce content for RJIonline.org and forge new partnerships.
Create content for rjionline.org which provides relevant information for the industry on practical innovation for journalism, current projects or trends in the industry.
Teach at the Missouri School of Journalism.

The ideal candidate for this position is a journalism professional with management and news experience. They will enjoy working with professionals and talented students to find, make, test and share new technologies, products, services and storytelling techniques. The ideal candidate will be extremely organized, good at time management, multi-tasking and will be able to meet short- and long-term deadlines with ease. They will work well with consultants, professionals and students from all backgrounds and abilities. They will have journalism experience but also an interest in innovation for the news industry to create positive change in local newsrooms across the country.
Employer will assist with relocation costs.
