What we want
The Information Representative II, is responsible for being the liaison between the Athletic Department and the Media (print, radio, television and other electronic media). Writing original press releases and feature stories. Lay out and production of media guides and game programs. Supervision of student assistants. Compilation of statistics. Disseminating information to various Media. Liaison between sports and Media to arrange interviews and other media requests for the 21 intercollegiate sports. Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Two years’ experience in related field such as media relations, sports information, communications, public relations, or journalism.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Sports statistical knowledge, creative writing ability, desktop publishing.
- Knowledge of StatCrew, NCAA LiveStats, Adobe Creative Suites.
- Ability to multi task and work cooperatively with others.
Other Requirements or Other Factors:
- Team travel required. Ability to work nights, holiday, and weekends as required to complete assigned task and sports coverage.
Preferred Education and Experience:
- Master’s Degree.
- Prior experience in Sports Information setting.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated writing skills, interview skills, general photography/digital images and basic website management.
Responsibilities:
- MEDIA LIAISON - Writing releases, feature stories and advisories that offer a unique and distinct view of Aggie Athletics to capture audience attention. Distributing these documents to all news and information media.
- COMMUNICATIONS LIAISON - Supervise the scheduling of assigned sports coaching staff and student-athletes as the result of media requests for interviews, photoshoots and other public events. Facilitate communications between internal and external units in the Athletics Department.
- GAME OPERATIONS - Serving as a key component of game operations for all Texas A&M sports teams, including preparation of media work areas, interview areas and arranging statistical crews. Assist with radio and television productions at home and away events as requested.
- SOCIAL MEDIA - Leading, developing and executing social media strategy to actively engage fans, student-athletes, potential student-athletes and key stakeholders on all social media platforms. The successful candidate is expected to participate in establishing the direction of social media execution, including creativity and compelling content.
- MEDIA PUBLICATION - Creating the layout and production of media guides, game notes, game programs for assigned sports using desktop publishing and other programs.
- SUPERVISION - Encouragement and effective communication with regard to supervision of student assistants. Supervision of these assistants is expected during media activities, game days and compilation of statistics for assigned sports.
- INFORMATION MAINTENANCE - Maintain, post and monitor all of Athletics’ external resources, including 12thMan.com, paying particular attention to the message of the primary sports you will represent. Maintenance includes working cooperatively with staff photographers and other resources so as to maximize the history and legacy of Texas A&M Athletics.
- RESEARCH - Research information to fulfill media requests and to provide positive, accurate narratives regarding Texas A&M’s athletics teams, students, coaches and staff.
- Compliance - Maintains continual and thorough familiarity with all applicable NCAA, Conference and University rules and regulations. Establishes and ensures communication and enforcement of rules and regulations for all staff members and student workers supervised. Performs other duties as assigned.
