The UC Irvine Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences Marketing and Communications team is responsible for maintaining and uplifting the School's reputation across a broad spectrum of internal and external audiences, including students, alumni, donors, faculty, staff, media and the public. In support of the Office of the Dean's priorities, we partner with staff, faculty and researchers to promote the school's work through news releases, events, and digital and print platforms. Our office provides strategic guidance and support on marketing and communications best practices, websites, graphic design, media relations, social media and engagement.

The Senior Communications Specialist will craft compelling and engaging written content that shares our story, supports our brand and promotes our faculty, students, alumni, community, research, departments and programs. Typical job duties will include writing and editing news and feature stories, creating multi-channel communications plans and providing best-practice strategic guidance to stakeholders. This will be a hybrid position.

Your Role on the Team

In collaboration with the Director of Communications, develop and implement strategic communications plans for the school and department clientele. Incumbent oversees the school's websites and internal and external electronic campaigns - including leading content, design and management; serving as managing editor and primary writer; managing content vendors; and collaborating with department clients. Responsibilities also include content creation, copywriting and editing, public relations and marketing support, and collaboration with department clients and the school's annual magazine.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $77,000.00- $92,550.00 (Annual).

Required:

• Knowledge of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning, project management, content creation and channel management.
• Knowledge and understanding of technical applications to effectively direct technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications.
• Knowledge of the organization, its achievements, mission, vision, goals, policies, practices, infrastructure, and a strong knowledge of current affairs, and issues in higher education and / or health sciences.
• Solid skills to create, develop, and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans
• Knowledge and skills to advise and consult with faculty and management to ensure delivery of the desired message to the target and / or broad general audiences.
• Solid written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.
• Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex technical language into readable and compelling copy for a variety of audiences and channels.
• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
• A minimum of 5 years of experience 5+ years of experience
